Brought into the world in Aigle to an American dad and English mother, she was raised in the Swiss ski resort of Villars.
Smith has been skiing since the age of two, and at 14 years old she was chosen into the Swiss National Educational Performance Center of Brig.
At the point when she graduated in 2009, there was no Swiss junior ski cross-program, so with the help of family and backers, Smith made her program.

Smith began to prepare with Guillaume Nantermod, the Boardercross World Champion, and after their association quickly gave indications of achievement, they were coordinated into the Swiss National Team.
At only 17 years of age, Smith got her first World Cup platform position, with runner-up at the Lake Placid World Cup in January 2010. Her first success came a year later in Innichen/San Candido. She required two all the more second places in the 2010–11 season, yet fell and tore her foremost cruciate tendon, driving her out of rivalry for a very long time.
